1. I thought I had the market (if one may so say) on knowing obscure Paul VI documents that nobody bothers to read, so I’m chagrined to say I’ve never heard of this one, but glad you mentioned it. There are clear echos here, it seems to me, of Cardinal Newman’s biglietto speech before this, and Alasdair MacIntyre’s evisceration of liberalism after him.

    1. I knew nothing of his until I was doing research work on a talk I gave on “Catholic Libertarianism” a few months ago. I actually thought it was quite strange that Pius XI would issue an encyclical on the 40th anniversary of RN and John Paul II would issue one on the 100th anniversary, but that none of the other popes had bothered to commemorate it. I was delighted to come across this.
