It is really very simple. As long as the Tradinista Collective calls for the nationalization of major industries, they are socialist in the true sense of the word, by which I mean the sense in which the Church has uniformly condemned it. No amount of polemic can change that fact.

Pius XI, in his discussion of socialism in Quadragesimo Anno, states that “certain kinds of property, it is rightly contended, ought to be reserved to the State since they carry with them a dominating power so great that cannot without danger to the general welfare be entrusted to private individuals.” no. 114. There is nothing intrinsically wrong with state ownership of certain key industries, and Pius’s condemnation of socialism is based primarily not on the economic program of moderate socialists, but on their atheistic anthropology. Belloc, in The Restoration of Property also allows for state ownership in some cases.

This is not to say that state ownership is wise in any particular case, only that it’s not forbidden a priori by the Church.

I don’t think nationalization of telecommunications/ rail or any other industry has been condemned. Depends on the details.
